Winter has definitely arrived and we are
tempted to stay indoors and keep warm.
There are beautiful days in-between the rain though; the mountains are
greener the aloes are blooming and the skies wonderful so wrap up, take a walk
and your cameras, and be inspired by Mother Nature. For the not so hardy, try a
different medium. Sue and Tim
certainly inspired us with pastel and computer art and it’s always good to get
out of one’s comfort zone.
The mural on the wall in 2nd Avenue Fish
Hoek is sorely in need of some TLC.
John Strickland is going to have a look to assess the deterioration, and
if he feels that we could do some repair work we will need some willing
volunteers to help. We could have
a morning of great fellowship while keeping Fish Hoek beautiful.
A warm welcome to our newest member –
Lesley Luyt.
Thank you to all the members who have paid
their dues this year.
PAST EVENTS
Our mini exhibition at Long Beach Mall on
the 5th of May was a huge success and we had nine busy artists either
exhibiting their work, or sitting quietly and painting. Val Parry was a busy lady doing
portraits, and there was a lot of interest from the public in general. We are
considering having another Saturday morning exhibition at the Mall sometime in
October. We hope that those who were not able to participate this time will
consider showing their work, or using the morning as a paint-out.
14 May – Workshop
Val Parry ran a very useful workshop ahead
of the drawing competition and all those who participated enjoyed the
afternoon. Thank you Val for being such a committed member of our Society and
for always being available to help and share your experience and expertise.
The weather for the Water’s Edge paint-out
was good, and the five artists who spent the morning there enjoyed
themselves.
It was agreed that the venue was beautiful
but there was a marathon hike by one of our artists to find a loo, so this
particular spot does have its drawbacks!
The drawing competition held on the 22nd of
May was not particularly well supported but I think that all those who were
there had a very enjoyable evening. Clive Tyler gave an impromptu talk on the
rules and guidelines for competitions which allowed for a relaxed exchange of
ideas and suggestions.
The standard of work submitted was very
high, and we are pleased that a new member took both first and third
prize. Val Parry’s portrait of
Betty Salmon was awarded second prize.
FUTURE EVENTS
Please make an effort to attend some or all
of these. Nerina Gardens Hall is
