DVD evening - David Bellamy

Nothing has aged (much)!

A youthful David Bellamy took us through Andalucia to some of his favourite destinations and although this DVD devoted to plein air sketching was over 20 years old, it was as fresh as the day it was released! Full of interesting tips and generative of an enthusiasm to get out there, and to get sketching.

Sue opened up the library before and after the DVD giving us a chance to browse.

Some 14 members and guests came to see the DVD and among them, Franziska, who used to work on the committee of FHAS and was back in Fish Hoek with a German friend for a short holiday. It was so lovely to see her again!

The DVD started us off with DB sketching in the Alhambra in Granada - amid mega crowds and wearing a silly hat that attracted attention. He suggested we'd be better artists if we blended in to the local scene.
He went on to the Alpujarras and found the gorgeous little town of Pampaneira with its whitewashed walls and ancient lanes.

After some impressive sketching, it was down to the coast:

Tea and coffee was available after the DVD. Cost: a very reasonable R5.

Thanks Rob McAlpine for documenting the evening.

  1. It's a pleasure being able to contribute to our blog. A big thank you to Fiona for being so efficient on our Blogspot. Trusting that more & more folk become aware of this outlet as we continue down this road of communication to all fellow artists.

    1. Many thanks 'Annapurna' alias Rob. Your photos are invaluable and without them the blog would have no value at all.
