20 August – Paint-out at 9.30 am  There is a wealth of interesting things to paint or draw in Simon’s Town – yachts, water, buildings, alley ways and people.  Those interested should please meet at the entrance to False Bay Yacht Club where there is plenty of safe parking.

28 August – 7 pm
THE HUGH MURDOCH TROPHY COMPETITION
THEME- ON A SUNDAY

For an idea what the French used to get up to on a sunny Sunday, turn to that great pointillist, Seurat!!

So, what do you do? or don't you do? Active, lazy, working, reflecting. Sunday is different to all of us. Give us your version of a Sunday.

Work should be brought to the hall between 6 and 6.30 pm with your signature covered.  Please bring a small plate of snacks with you.  There will be more information given nearer the date, but in the meantime please read through the rules and guidelines at the end of the newsletter to avoid disappointment.

Hands and Art

Tuesday's July workshop was a little out of the ordinary - and much enjoyed by all the participants.

Peter Ford invited everyone to make a drawing of their hand. So far, so good. Then this drawing was put aside and we all made a model of the same hand in clay.

Then, we drew the hand once more - and were amazed at the improvements we had made in the short hour or so contemplating our non-drawing hand.

The lesson? Observation is the key to good art.

We had a great workshop and the dozen or so participants were delighted with the afternoon.
